End of Drought

A left footed cracker in the first-half marked the end of a 'lengthy four game drought' for Hari Gurung. Sharing the limelight was Dipu Gurung scoring a superb double and Santosh Ghale scoring the final goal. Self referencing is a little weird so I will cut this one short.

Final score was Yeti FC 4 - Carringbush 0.

Yeti FC outclassed Carringbush in all areas of the park. A magnificent effort from the midfielders and the forwards, they dominated play and created chances throughout the match, the score-line speaks volume. A flawless performance by the defenders and the keeper, they collectively kept a clean sheet. Overall it was a commendable team effort, one that we will surely see a repeat of in the upcoming match.

Bhok mitho ke bhojan mitho?

Let me just say that those lamb-chops went down really well after the game. But the answer to the above question, I leave it up to you.

A big 'thank you' to Anjan Rai for organising the Sunday's BBQ, also thanks to Hari Gurung for his help and anyone else who had helped with the event. It was loads of fun and lots of laughs.

Player's Photo

I have been trying to collect every player's photo. Anyone who has not had their photo taken yet, come early on Sundays and if I have the camera on me that day I will be more than happy to take your photo. Or better yet, you can help; get your photo taken in Yeti shirt and email them to me.

90th minute cherry

With the wet weather causing the ball to bounce around with extra-zip, the match was anything but a walk in the park. The two teams toughed it out in the wet, for most of the game without a goal. Yeti FC eventually secured all 3 points courtesy of a decisive strike from Kabin Shrestha in the 90th minute. The low shot bounced off the right-bar and into the net, sending the crowd into frenzy.

A mention to our goal-keeper Balendra Gurung, a particular save he made in the second-half had us in awe. Another mention to an early first-half strike from Ayush Bista, bounced off the opposing keeper's hand narrowly missing the goalpost. Also a late second-half strike from Ashik Gurung, came so close only to be denied by the top bar.

A taste of Football Federation Victoria

Our shock defeat of 0-4 over the weekend to Melbourne Eagles is not all in vain.

I believe the lack of info about our opponent played a major part in our loss. After some snooping about the web I have stumbled across some info which gives us a valuable insight.

Melbourne Eagles FFV ladder

Melbourne Eagles, a late-entrant to Vicsoccer are the same Melbourne Eagles who were crowned champions of FFV thirds in 2007.

Had we known about our opponent pre-match, perhaps the outcome would have been more competitive. However this post is not about what could have been, rather it is about what has been: 'A humbling moment in Yeti FC's 2008 campaign'.

The experience was not of another league game, more of how Yeti FC faired against FFV thirds champions. And despite what the score-line would otherwise suggest Yeti FC had dominated possession at times creating great chances, only to be beaten on the counter.

This has been a football lesson for us all. I believe Yeti FC will rise from the ashes even stronger! Jai Yeti!

Root of Nepali football

I have made some minor changes to the website in an attempt to improve the overall aesthetics.

The banner image had quite a profound impact on me, thought I'd share it.

Time stood still as the image in the banner came to life, bringing flashbacks of many such moments of my own. 'Rolled-up socks and plastic bags', I am sure most of us have been here before. Just about anything could be rolled-up as a football, just about anywhere a football-field. We were only limited by our own imagination.

The image in the banner tells a thousand stories. I hope that it will bring fond memories for you all, just as it did for me. A revelation I hope to share.

Of mice and cat?

"We have the lead, yenii haroo lai biralou le mousa khelye jastaii khelaoo!"

That was the voice of jubilation from the crowd, as the script was being written for yet another exciting game.

A perfect strike from Niraj Tamang was great deal of fun to watch. The shot from 25 yards, hit the bar, cannoned downwards, bounced back up with equal force, hit the keeper in the head and landed inside the net.

Then there was the moment of bravery from Ashik Gurung who ran the ball in the net, literally as he was being struck down and sent tumbling.

Yeti FC was leading 2-0 all set to take the glory, when a dubious penalty was awarded to Olympiakos. Now with the score-line of 2-1 Olympiakos found new life. Suddenly they had grown even taller, faster and lot rougher. They marched forth stomping and crushing anything along their way, snatching yet another goal to make it a 2-2 draw.

The brave Yetis fought back, also stomping and literally crushing anything along the way. "Phalamm sanga kathh judeiraaa kaha hoounchaaa", yelled one of the supporters. It was also an indication of how tough our defence were.

Much of the next 15 minute was a scruffy affair, somewhat like Aussie-Rules than Football.

Then out of nothing there it was, strike from Hari Gurung destined to miss, rolling away from the post. And there he was, man named Sugand Subedi who ran 'like the wind', caught the ball just in time sending it home, making it a 3-2 win for Yeti FC.

Glory is all ours yet again!

Congratulation Yeti FC

Congrats to everyone with victory over Old Ivanhoe (score 3-1). We're certainly stepping into a good start of a season.

Next week game will be against Kooyong United. It will also be a very competitive game. I will be updating with match game details once it is confirmed.

Mind you, Yeti FC was one man down for most of the game. The goal scorers were Arjun Rijal (2 goals) Punya Limbu (1 goal).

It was a match-up made of legends, resembling somewhat the epic story of David and Goliath. The Yetis smaller in physique somehow seemed to have grown bigger in spirit as if possessed by the mythical beast of the snow. The Yetis empowered, united, and equipped with great skills, stunned their giant like opponents, eventually emerging victorious 3-1.

Well done to the coach, keeper, defence, midfield and the forwards. Big 'thanks' to the supporters and rest of the team who cheered the team on. We hope this is just the beginning of something great to come.
