Appeal for Help
As some of you may be aware, one of our own, Ujwal Chettri was involved in an unfortunate accident in the early hours of 1st of May. He was found lying unconscious on the ground by the police and was rushed to Alfred Hospital with severe head injury. He was in intensive care unit for over three weeks. He is still in Alfred Hospital in high care unit. According to the doctors, Ujwal has serious brain injury. Though currently out of danger, his senses are still not working properly.
A small miracle has happened in the past week, through constant care of doctors and nurses at Alfred and love and care of his mother and grandmother, Ujwal who was unable to speak or recognize anyone has now started to speak slowly and can now recognize some of his family and friends. According to doctors at Alfred though this is a positive sign, there is still a long way to go.
The next step for Ujwal is rehabilitation and as of yesterday (9th of July) the hospital is waiting to hear from the rehabilitation centre in Kew.
Ujwal was an international student and currently in bridging visa. Ujwal’s mother and grandmother are currently in Melbourne to be by his side. The cost of treatment is high and also the cost of living for his family who are living in a rental apartment in Melbourne which is also very high. We are very grateful to Ankit Tamang, who has been providing ongoing support to Ujwal and his family since their arrival. Special thanks also goes to Tonnou Ghotane and Chandra Yonzon for their help and support to his family.
Yeti Football club has been providing financial and emotional support till now, but we think its time we spread our arms and ask for help from the greater Nepalese community because this is going to be a long battle for Ujwal and his family. This is an appeal to one and all to contribute generously towards this cause.
Help in any form will be highly appreciated and will go a long way toward Ujwal’s recovery.
Please follow this Facebook link on how you can contribute.
Yeti FC wins TWGG Cup
First ever 9-A-side Interstate Football Tournament
The very first 9-A-SIDE Interstate Football Tournament was organised on Sunday, 20th Feb 2011 by Yeti Football Club at Clifton Park, Brunswick Melbourne. The idea of holding this tournament was to bring all the Nepalese communities in Australia together to develop friendship and community harmony through football.
This tournament has created a history of some sort amongst the Nepalese communities in Australia. In all ten (10) team had participated, six were from Melbourne including Bhutanese (Nepali) team, top two teams from Sydney GNC league 2010, one from Brisbane despite the recent catastrophic event and finally one from Darwin, Northern Territory, the top end of the country.
The atmosphere was like a carnival with arrival of more than 400 people from all age and gender group dressed in various colours making a lot of noise. Some senior citizens were spoiled wit Dhaka topi proudly decorating their head.
Amidst the hallabulla the first match kicked off at 10 am with the organising team taking Yeti FC Blue taking on United FC (the reigning GNC cup & 7-A-Side champion of Melbourne), within minutes of kick off a pin-point cross from the right flank by Kundan Karki found Sundar Karki unmarked in the D-area which Mr. Karki did not make any mistake and scored with ease. The noise from this goal was yet to settle when UFC earned a corner and Mr. Khaling was left unmarked in the 1st bar and scored beautifully with his head. It was a really controlled first match of the tournament until the end of first half. After the break Yeti players with spring in their feet scored at will. The match ended Yeti FC winning by 5 goals to United FC 2.
So far the weather was good although cloudy. There were no sign of the rain however minutes after the 2nd game all of a sudden it was very windy and started to rain heavily. Some thought that the Bhutanese Dragon was angry after loosing to Yeti Red and was taking out its fury on them although the Manager Mr. Parsuram denied the allegation.
The third game had to be stopped for sometime as it was still raining when organisers decided to go ahead and start the game, some members of the committee said that hail or storm the show must go on. Though it was raining match officials and players took the field and started the game. Few minutes into the game rain stopped and cloud started to disappear.
The event was highlighted by sheer presence of all the band members from Nepal Rock N Roll band COBWEB, who presented the signed t-shirt (stating “I LOVE NEPAL” to the winner of Kids penalty scorer and Ladies penalty scorer during the lunch break.
Into the semi-finals were Yeti FC Blue Melbourne, Gurkha FC Brisbane, Sagarmatha FC Sydney and Nepalese Thunderstorm FC Sydney. In the first semi-finals Yeti FC Blue defeated the champions of Brisbane. The second semi-final was a clash of two giants from Sydney of which Sagarmatha FC stood tall against Nepalese Thunderstorm FC in very tensed and attacking fooball match.
The third place was played between Gurkha FC Brisbane against Nepalese Thunderstorm FC Sydney where Brisbane defeated not so self Nepalese Thunderstorm FC to take out the third place trophy and prize money.
The grand final was played between Yeti FC Blues from Melbourne and Sagarmatha FC from Sydney. Kundan Karki from Yeti FC broke the deadlock on 15th minute through a left foot lob from the right hand side of D-Area. It was a nervy game where both team were cautious with full of tactics only seen in highest level of football matches, both created chances after chances only for Sagarmatha FC to concede on well constructed counter attack by Arjun Rizal from centre and cutting back a pass unselfishly from right hand side of the D-Area for Sundar Karki to score in the open post. This left Sundar Karki with highest scorer of the tournament and the history was of making for first ever all Australian Nepalese Community Champion, minutes later the final whistle was blown.
Best Player award was taken by Narayan Khadka and tournament Fair Play team was taken by Bhutanese Thunder Dragon chosen by the match officials of the tournament.
Our major sponsor from TWGG International Mr. Tonnou Ghotane Gurung said that this event was a historic event and was very proud to be associated with Yeti FC. He thanked all the participating teams, especially teams from Darwin, Brisbane and Sydney for taking their time and trouble to sparing their time to participate in this historic tournament. He ended his speech by thanking the sponsors and the supporter and not before deciding that the Yeti FC wants to make this tournament bigger and better next year.

Match Report: 31/08/2008
The unavailability of some players had a direct impact on the team's first-half performance. It might have been our lowest turn out of the whole season.
The team managed to get it right in the second-half, dominating play and creating chances; unlucky not to have secured all three points.

After the shocking season's low at Wilsmere Park, the team needed to pull together. The team did exactly that! Yeti FC redeemed themselves with a solid 3-1 win over Kooyong United. Temp manager Karna could not have asked for more from his players.
Hats off to Dipu for setting the scene with the first goal. Two hats off to Kabin for making it happen with a superb double. Despite not scoring, Arjun Rijal had a great game. Incredibly all three goals were orchestrated by Arjun.
Two more games boys, let's make them count!

Match Report: 10/08/2008
"Unexpectedly difficult game", said a Yeti player, as he reflected on the match.
Indeed, the incredibly cold and wet condition as well as being one man down early in the game made for a surprisingly difficult outing. The game locked in a 0-0 draw till the early stages of the second-half had the supporters concerned. In the end, much to everyone's relief Yeti FC walked away with a 2-0 victory over Highlander United.
Despite few slip ups Atish Malla and Sagun Gurung combined well at the centre-back. Niranjan Gurung and Ajay Gurung kept the wings in check, while keeper Balendra Gurung had a nice and easy day keeping another clean sheet.
There were also some nice playmaking going on from the middle of the park. The forwards however struggled to convert their chances for most part of the game. Hari Gurung eventually came up with a cracker of an opening goal. Moments later he also went on to set-up the second goal where Arjun Rijal was finally able to overcome the opposing-keeper.
Finally, a big "thank you" to Bharat and his missus for the post-match feast!
Result: Yeti FC 2 - Highlander United 0
Goal scorers: Hari Gurung (1), Arjun Rijal (1)

Another 3 points for Yeti FC, though it was not as easy as what the final score would suggest.
From the start till the end the boys struggled with the offside calls. As usual there were many different views of what had happened. "There must have been about 40 offside called against us", a loyal supporter stated. "Maybe this is due to the awkward situation of playing against less than 11 players", he concluded. "We need to learn not to get caught offside", one player stated. At one stage there were 5 players offside all at once! Perhaps we are giving our opponents far less credit than they deserve.
The highlights of the game once again began with Bigyan Gurung, with the opening goal. A long range shot sailed over then dipped behind the opposing-keeper into the net, leaving the opposing-keeper helpless. The post-goal celebration resembled that of a certain EPL player.
The second goal began with Niranjan's well delivered pass. The pass lead to my run on the right, finishing off with a low-shot towards the far-left post. The opposing-keeper got a hand to it, which only served to slow the momentum of the ball to almost a crawl. It was a real suspense to then see the ball crawling slowly over the line.
The third goal came from Dipu Gurung. His speed put the pressure on the opposing-keeper who somehow managed to let go the ball, Dipu was quick to capitalise on the mistake. Boys from Carringbush were a bit sore about it, but it was all fair and square. The fourth goal also came from Dipu. Hari's pass inside the box was converted into a close range shot to the top-left.
All in all, another interesting day, another 3 valuable championship points earned...
Result: Yeti FC 4 - Carringbush 1
Goal scorers: Bigyan Gurung (1), Santosh Ghale (1), Dipu Gurung (2)

Match Report: 27/07/2008
An early super-goal from Bigyan Gurung on the first-half set the scene for the day. Bigyan met the inward cross with a flick-volley facing away from the goal-post, catching the opposition keeper totally off guard as he netted one home. Second goal from Arjun Rijal painted a cheery picture on everyone's face. Third goal of the day also came from Arjun and left everyone wanting for more.
The midfielders also had a much easier day comparatively to the previous game. Defending was rock-solid from the beginning till the end, the keeper and the defenders collectively kept a clean-sheet.
In the end it felt good to be back on the winner's list after a tough game at James St Reserve. Let us not forget that gloomy Sunday.
Result: Yeti FC 3 - Old Xaverians 0
Goal scorers: Bigyan Gurung (1), Arjun Rijal (2)

Match Report: 20/07/2008
It was heart breaking to lead most of the game only to loose it in the end by a hairline. There were many different views as to why we lost it in the end, each to their own. If you are anything like me, you couldn't help think that perhaps the earlier incidents on the day had played a part in altering the final outcome.
To the team's credit, it was a far better performance this time around, unlike our first meeting with the Eagles. The league is not over yet, there are still quite a few games to be played. With only few points separating the four teams anything can happen now.
I believe up till now we had played like title-holders. It is time... for us to play like the underdogs. So hold your head high, stick your chest out... we have games to win.
Jai Yeti!

Match Report: 13/07/2008
The disciples (Yeti FC) of Guru Gorakhnath (eighth century Hindu warrior-saint) once again pitted against the Greek gods (Olympiakos). Things progressed into a push and shove affair rather quickly, much the same as their last meeting. Only this time Guru G's disciples outnumbered the Greek gods, they seem to be coming out of the Guru G's academy thick and fast. Perhaps the British army should look at Yeti FC for new recruits.
Refereeing was annoying at best, with the referee stopping the game every 5 mins to hand out the "Don't even think about it" warning, followed by the "I am the boss around here" yellow-card.
Game wise it was a mixed bag. I thought we had controlled the first-half. Unfortunately we only managed a single goal during the much dominant 45 minutes. In the second-half both Yeti FC and Olympiakos dominated the game in turns. In the end it was a relief when Dipu's cross to Punya somehow sailed into the net, making it a 2-1 victory for Yeti FC.
Next up, Melbourne Eagles!

Match Report: 06/07/2008
Superb first-half performance, a header from Hari Gurung neutralised the two sides to a 1-1 score-line. Soon after, somewhat resembling the marksmanship of Arjun from the epic Mahabharat, a blazing strike from Arjun Rijal put us in the lead 2-1.
Kooyong fought back in the second-half and there was about a dozen free-kick given against us in the timeframe of 5-10 mins. Substitute keeper Kabin Shrestha appeared to have springs in his legs as he kept our lead in check. Unfortunately towards the end of the game a shot from Kooyong deflected off our defence into the back of our net. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
Result: Yeti FC 2 - Kooyong United 2
Goal scorers: Hari Gurung (1), Arjun Rijal (1)
